Four easy ways to boost your search engine ranking

Preparing your website for search engine submission is a vital process for achieving high search engine rankings. Having said that the steps to follow are not difficult to master if you follow the following four simple guide lines

Tip #1 Headlines Are Important

Most WebPages will contain more than a single heading. The headline situated at the top of the webpage is the main heading. In the html language this is referred to as the H1 tag. It is very important to insert your main keyword here. This simple and quick piece of coding can have a very positive impact on how the search engines rank your site

Subsequent headlines not surprisingly referred to as, H2 and H3, should also be included. As with the main H1 tag you should aim to insert relevant keywords here as well

Tip #2 Using Keywords In Body Text

The actual impact of this technique is in my view not as important as it used to be and I would not spend too much time worrying about this. Indeed if you try to stuff your text with keywords this may be perceived as spamming, and is to be avoided. I would suggest a good rule of thumb is to include the keyword at the start, right near the end and once in the middle if it is a large passage

The search engines do not recognise JavaScript, graphics, and many types of graphics, so avoid the temptation to cram your sites full of flashy effects. It might look great but is not much good if you are not getting the visitors to see it. Pages need an element of text to do well with the search engines. You should aim for something between 100 and 400 total words.

Tip #3 Using Keywords in your page title

You should always include your main Keywords in the title of the page. This is the information that appears at the top of your browser window.

This information is shown at the very top of the browser window. Most search engines display the Title on the first line of their listing. This is very important as not only does it have an impact on your listing, but can also encourage a click if it is relevant to the search

Tip #4 Using Alt tags for your images.

Make sure Alt tags are added to image descriptions, in order to maximize your search engine optimization efforts. Doing so will also help the viewers experience in case any images don’t load.

Once again we need to avoid the danger of spamming here, so cramming a load of keywords into your alt tags is not a good idea

These basic amendments should not take you too long and will have a long term benefit for your goal of achieving a high rank in the search engines

Free site traffic using SEO tactics.

Posted in SEO by Steve Cowan @ Dec 5, 2007

Whenever you are searching for anything on the web, the chances are that you use search engines to find what you are looking for. So, when you are running your search in Google, for example, have you ever paused a moment to wonder how it is that some websites are able to achieve such outstanding search engine rankings?

Imagine, as an example, and that you yourself have a website that is concerned with overseas travel. So, in order to spy on your competition, you type ‘travel’ into the Google search box, and wait for the results, which show 761 million search results returned.

However, you also know that out of all those millions of results, there are only 10 websites that can appear on the first results page. With all those countless millions of people searching for online dating information every day, imagine how many thousands of visitors would visit your dating site if your site were to appear on that top ten page.

Even appearing on the second page of the results will be no major disaster, as research has indicated that most searchers who have a serious need of knowledge will often look at least this far.

Unfortunately, even these relatively dedicated searchers will probably stop there, and so, if your or site or blog is rated somewhere lower down the top hundred, then you are likely to see very, very few free visitors coming from the search engine results.

However, imagine that you not only managed to achieve a top 10 rating in the Google search results, but also managed a similar thing with most of the other major search engines like MSN and Yahoo. Then, given your prominence in each of the top three search engines, you could anticipate significantly increased revenues from your site, simply because of the number of new visitors that you would expect to see every day.

Indeed, in such a situation, it will be almost impossible not to see a spike in your site earnings and you could view those increases as representing almost pure profit, as the upturn in visitor numbers has been created almost entirely without cost.

No matter what your business, this situation is the dream of anybody trying to sell products or services online.

It does not, however, have to remain an impossible dream. It does not take a lot of money, or any special talents or training to achieve consistent top-10 search engine results.

You should not, however, be tempted by the many ‘dubious’ shortcuts products that you will see the sale all over the net that promise that they can do this for you in a day or two if you will only ‘invest’ your $97 in their e-book..

Unfortunately, in their eagerness to see their website ranked this highly, many marketers will buy these books, and resort to using tricks and underhand tactics to try to achieve this as quickly as possible. Do not do it. It is absolutely not necessary, and doing so could get your website blacklisted or even banned entirely.

If, on the other hand, you learn and apply the correct search engine optimization tactics, then it is relatively simple to create a torrent of free traffic for your website. And, because these tactics are all completely acceptable under the engines ‘ToS’, there is every possibility that your site will enjoy long-term search engine success as well.

In other words, by doing the job right, whilst there are no guarantees that you will always stay on the first results page, you should nevertheless enjoy a constantly increasing flow of visitors.

Until quite recently, search engine optimization was the number one method for driving new visitors to your website without paying for them.

Whilst this is no longer necessarily true, as other traffic generation techniques are now equally as important as SEO, nevertheless, every website should be optimized for the search engines. And, given that it takes no more than an hour or two to make sure that your website is fully optimized, it would be very shortsighted not to do everything you can.

Do not be under any false illusions about search engine optimization. There is no secret formula for creating free traffic, by using such techniques. It is a relatively simple, logical process, but it is equally something that needs to be done correctly from the outset if you genuinely hope to see your website hit the ‘golden’ target of a top-10 search engine ranking.
